INTERLAKEN

There’s never a dull day in Interlaken (See Video Here), the adventure capital of Switzerland.

Nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, Interlaken is a charming town.

It is surrounded by some of the highest mountains of the Alps, such as Mount Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau.

Take one of two routes, via Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald, to get to Jungfraujoch, situated 3,454 metres above sea level. Known as the Top of Europe, Jungfraujoch offers spectacular views of the Aletsch Glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage site. While there, visitors can also head to the Ice Palace, situated in the heart of the glacier, to admire a cave full of beautiful ice sculptures.

ICE Magic at the Top of Europe offers a variety of fun activities, such as curling, skating, and ice hockey, with extravagantly- lit runways and a variety of ice rinks. Top the experience off with an all-you-can-eat raclette, a cheese-topped rosti, or a cheese fondue with mulled wine.

True to its moniker, Interlaken has ample options for thrill-seekers. Don’t miss a ride on the First Glider, at Grindelwald – First, which is shaped like an eagle and flies through the mountain landscape at speeds up to 83 kilometres per hour. Adventurers can also head to the Schilthorn summit in the Bernese Oberland to experience the Thrill Walk, a 200-metre-long steel and glass bridge that begins at 2,970 metres and runs along the side of a rock, under Schilthorn’s observation deck, ending below the Birg   cable car station. Piz Gloria, the world’s first revolving mountaintop restaurant on Schilthorn is where many scenes of the 1969 James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service were filmed. The restaurant offers a James Bond breakfast, and is known for the iconic 007 Burger.

For a relaxing day, visit the VICTORIA- JUNGFRAU Grand Hotel & Spa, which sits between two lakes at the foot of Jungfrau. The hotel has a monumental spa complex, which includes the 5,500-sguare- metre Nescens that is among the most beautiful spas in Switzerland.    For more information, visit MySwitzerland.com
